Existing While Fat.

You guys...this just happened...
One of the baddest of bad ass ladies in the body positive community, Natalie Hage, was fat shamed hard while minding her business and actively trying to shrink herself (yeah, we'll talk about that more in a moment...) on her flight. The community immediately took to social media to stand up for Natalie and reach out to the airline.

Natalie also recorded a video that she shared via her own Facebook page when she confronted the man. See it here.

Now, let's get to the nitty gritty...this is something that happens EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. And it not only happens to super fats. It happens to people of ALL different sizes. We take up space. Each one of us. And yes, some take up more than others, but should we not be accepting and accommodating of our vast diverse spectrum of shapes and sizes and colors and beliefs?

But seriously, no one should have anxiety over whether or not their seat belt will fasten, the arm rest will go down, or if they will be inconveniencing the person next to them. We shouldn't actively have to try to make our bodies smaller in case we are in a tighter space. We shouldn't have to have Facebook groups and websites devoted to tips on flying while fat. We should be able to exist in our world, taking up our space, and being bad asses.

Also, I do want to say kudos to American Airlines for at least saying that they will take care of this. I sincerely hope that they do.

Much love to you Natalie. You are a treasure and do not deserve this treatment. NO ONE deserves this treatment.
